Free reading

Last few days I stroll around looking for some books (for a friend of mine). I'm proud to see that there are more people each day hanging around inside the mega bookstore (MPH Mid Valley) to do some free reading activities. This is one of my favorite leisure time activity, but i havent been doing that for quite sometimes.

I joined the "free reading club"..reading magazines..able to finish two of them (save bout RM20). Already got the book that my friend need. After reading, I spent about 45 mins looking at other people (while my hands still holding the mag). I'm wearing cap today, so my glancing eyes cant be notice.

Mostly people reading magazines, the expensive imported mags. Just like me..sometimes i do read some books (free of course) which approx will takes about 2-3 hours of passive activity..do the reading. But even i've finish reading the book (if i did), it does not give satisfaction to me. One of the reason is that the book is too good to not to buy it (understood?). So i end up buying it. The receipt will be kept for tax reason..lol.

Second reason on the non-satisfaction issue is that i like to read while lying on the bed. So relaxing, and even if i dozed off, i'm safe..lol.

I personally encourage this free reading activities and really appreciate the effort done by some major bookstores. They provide seats (comfortable one) and even create a lounge style layout. But i noticed this effort is only done by major bookstores. I understand that maybe smaller bookstores cant afford this activites either by financial, space or other constraints. But who cares? I dont even bother about it because i've already have a favorite spot to do my own free reading stuff... What about library? Library only exists during the times when u were once called a student. Believe me, this is how Malaysians think about library. I used to go to library to read books, but the ambience is just not for me. People studying, discussing in a quiet, formal-like manner..not interesting. I'm an avid human watcher. So library is not a good spot to do that...at least for me. I believe more people start reading, but library, I believe is not Malaysian style, and not even mine too. Deep inside, i like the feel to be able to get things free (free reading) from a place where you should actually pay for what you use...is that bad?
