freedom of speech =p?

To begin with, freedom of speech among Malaysians is the problem with self-determination while exposing thinking through writing blog. As writing blog can be categorized as a hobby, in such a way blocking Malaysians from writing what they believe in is just like imposing the power of gatekeepers without considering the rights of the group. Supposedly, any information given through the column should be inspected first before the writer is accused as trying to spread atrocious news. Although the pieces are dealing with big names in this country, yet a judgment has to be certain. Seeking for the truth is very much needed even it is understandable that it might create chaos to the political situation in Malaysia. Reviewing the case of Raja Petra; it is the best example which captures the attention of many people when he suddenly being caught and sent to the Internal Security Act (ISA), before the inspection ends. This act is looked as a burden and brings injustice towards the writer.

In the Al-Quran, Allah stated that, “And give full measure and weight, with equity: We do not burden any human being with more than he is well able to bear, whenever you speak, speak justly, even if a near relative is concerned; and observe your bond with Allah: this has He enjoined upon you, so that you might keep it in mind. “Verily, this is the way leading straight unto me; follow it, then, and follow not the other way: lest they cause you to deviate from his way; this has he enjoined upon you, so that you might remain conscious of Him.” (Al-An’ am). (Verse 152-153).

Through this revelation, it can be said that Islam has highlighted that every human being needs to be given full measure and weight, with equity. For the concerned in Raja Petra’s case, where is the reference taken from to decide whether Raja Petra has to be caught and worst is being sent into ISA? Islam encourages seeking the truth and that is why it is relevant as said in the verse advising the people to speak justly even with the nearest relative. Same goes to the case of this man as he also has the right to be investigated first before any acts are taken to punish him.

As a provocative statement, the exposure of what Raja Petra’s believes in his blog is looked as an attack and that is why he had been arrested under the ISA without concerning the weight. It is explainable through the points of the early establishment of the ISA. As referred to Pauli Muray in her view said that ISA is subjected to loyalty clearance programs, which included intensive investigations into their lives reaching back to childhood. Mere membership at some time in the organization listed the attorney general as a ‘Communist front’. It signification to cause discharged from government service as a ‘bad security risk’. Reputations were destroyed overnight, and professional people were blacklisted on the basis of rumor, gossip, and other unsupported charges of subversive activities. Is it since the piece is pointing out the big names in the authority of the country, Raja Petra is being judged injustice court in that way. If it is so, it seems the administration put to help the public comes into the second line in their priorities, while the actual honor of their responsibilities are to provide the needs of the citizen.

              Again, a questionable query here is how the administrations, who should have the idea that their positions are based on the votes of the people and their wages are from the taxes, will provide the people without hearing the needs of the group? To take the stand that every single administer in this country has their responsibilities to present their community with well facilities and services, by all accounts freedom of speech in Malaysia should be autonomous to help them on their duty. However, things happen are contradicting with the situation. People are enforced not to talk rather than only nodded their heads.

Raja Petra’s bravery in his writings is looked as a starter point by many of the society to enlighten the government towards their hierarchy system policy. Using the internet as the medium to speak, it also becoming as the last solution or channel for the people to express themselves. In order to report the concern or problems to be taken action in this country is a big issue to be settled. The procedures in making need a long way to go before a verdict is going to be set. At the moment the case is going to finish, many victims involved and injustice become greater. Furthermore, with too many corruption’s deceases in this country, there are many possibilities might happen in the stop. Because of this, the democracy in exposing the speech is much desired in this society.
