The ban on Chelsea to bring in new player surely would give more impact to Chelsea itself as compared to any other team. 16 months without the opportunity to bring in new face to strengthen the squad will absolutely become a threat to Chelsea. Say , the same situation faced by young team of Arsenal, they may not be struggling as much as Chelsea, and yes the key point at present is the age.
Sure enough at the moment, Chelsea has one of the most admirable squad. But in the same time, it is an aging squad. Majority of the key player are those who we can consider senior, we are talking about 46 % of those above 28 years old. At the attacking line up, agreed the partnership of Drogba and Anelka has bring brute attacking force but we reckon they are at their peak, as they are also nearing their end of time. Drogba at 30 whilst Anelka at 31,and they would perhaps has one or two years of their peak time.
Going down to the midfield, Super Lampard himself, no matter how good he is , is 31 this year, then we also need to consider the age of Joe Cole (28) , Malouda (29) Ballack (33) and Deco (32), and speaking of Deco, he is as restless as ever being in Chelsea. He wanted to leave, and for sure at current situation, Chelsea can’t afford to lose him
Looking at the defensive line. Terry (29) captain a team of senior player. Carvalho (31), Ashley cole (29), Belleti (33) .Though we cant deny are performing well, but they are nearing the time where they would have to surrender to world of physic. Even the keeper is quite an age (Chech (27), Hillario (34). And age work hand to hand to your level of fitness. Fatigue. Against younger squad like arsenal, and team like Man City, Man Utd, Spurs, Aston Villa who would be able to bring in new player to strengthen their squad when the time is needed. Chelsea are threatened badly (though maybe not for this season, but we will feel the pressure by next season)
Then we bring our attention to numbers of game they will have per season.Tthe ever tight schedule of EPL, plus the League cup and the FA cup games will drain their energy. While the travelling they got to endure for the Champions League facing team who has a huge pool of great player, by next year Chelsea is in major threat. We are talking about Barcelona, Real Madrid (who seems to be able to attract anybody to play for them), Bayer, Inter and many more. With this situation, suddenly AC Milan could look younger for the fact they have the opportunity to sign new star.
Of course, Chelsea do have other player , but the one with younger age can be count by finger .Only 3 people or 13% are below 22 (Which we will definitely need them to fill the team for games like league cup against team from Division Two, we cant be risking Deco, Ballack , Drogba and Lamp to play all games) . And most of them though talented have not enough experience to endure games like the Champions League.
We also assume that the world is always round and the sky is always blue. But the reality say otherwise. By having a good number of “experience”, your muscle and your body also would have a good tendency to raise the white flag. And some of the players are quite aggressive and their motivation work higher than what their body could stand. We know Drogba has had his time sitting on the bench due to major injury, Ballack had his operation last year, Lampard and Terry has had their episode, Essien just got better recently and Joe Cole still being sideline due to injury. One bad game against team from lower part of the table struggling from relegation, on a badly maintain pitch could simple end up with everybody being hospitalized. We still remember the fiasco a few years back when two keeper got injured BADLY in one game. This happen again and Terry might need to put on the keeper jersey for good, assuming he doesn’t tear his tendon or has spasm on his groin muscle. By nature, what could stopping it to happen? On time like this, be it Ancelotti , Hiddink or the Chosen One himself would be helpless. Mourinho long ago always blame injury for his losses in which we all agreed. And do remember this season we hardly bringing any new player and far from any major signing. And yes, we can be very sure Ribery won’t be driving to Stamford bridge anytime soon. Unless he is coming with the intention to trash Chelsea down.
Another threat is the transfer business itself, while as I said earlier Deco would love to pack his bag though hopefully the new Ancelotti reign and success could change his mind, people like Carvalho, Drogba, Lampard and Terry has been constantly been speculated wanted to rejoin with the chosen one at Inter Milan. Whilst Kalaou has recently openly wanted to work with Arsene.I guess coming years , Abramovic would have no choice other than forking out greater amount of money in salary wise in order to keep em all. He cant lose them, no..not at the moment.
It seems Chelsea ambitious plan to have shortcut in creating their success story, by bringing in experience player (which what being done by most great club anyway) from other club despite their age may backfire badly.(well in some cases, it has already backfire, look at deco, schevsenko , kezman, and many others) And for sure Arsene Wenger now would say…well lad, I told u so….( and we can see clearly how well the young player of Arsenal are performing now)
Last but not least, I pray for the best. Chelses will be always in my heart, and hopefully drogba, anelka, joe cole, lampard, kalaou, , ballack, deco, essien, belleti, terry , carvalho, , obi mikeal, and chec will be Chelsea man through and through .Be loyal and stay with Chelsea till the end of 2011…damn, that is a long way to go.
P/s –
No doubt that young player like Santos and Kakuta has potential. However if my memory serve me right, the young squad of Chelsea from their own academy doesn’t bloomish when they had youngster cup in Malaysia a few years back…Hmm, worrying still .
Major signing, doesn’t only strengthen the squad. It also boost the morale of the player, in which it could help ignite the fire of desire to win among players iin early season. It also shows commitment of club to win.
