those were the days

Facebook, twitter, blackberry , smartphone, email, sms, 3G and wimax, ipod, netbook, thumbdrive,downloading, with kazaa or torrent  sms, mms, and GPS are the essential of nowadays living. Despite not having all those I listed, I have some of it, and neither cant live without it. What seem luxurious before (remember when hand phone trend start to bomb about 10 years ago) nowadays even kid at school bring fancier phone than me.

How has the technology evolve. Before we had Friendster, nowadays Friendster look so lame. Before we search with yahoo, nowadays who would use yahoo name if not because of yahoo messenger that we couldn’t get off with.  3G and wimax well,  I believe you guys still remembered the annoying tone of internet dial up connection, the high pitch and some weird  wooshing sound(…I really wonder why did they come up with that ugly tone back then….)

Then the ipod,  as comparison to our walkman 13 years ago, Sony walkman with Megabass. You will take out the tape, put a pen in the hole and turn it anti clock wise to rewind and get back to our favorite song….

How about netbook, I swear I might have dislocated my shoulder 10 years ago carrying an IBM I borrowed from my sister, and wait, 3 years before that I would not imagine about carrying laptop,That time,  I am happy with my desktop with the new design of small floppy disk…and the floopy disk, minus 4 years back it was this damn ,big ugly floppy disk that could only store a file or two of Dbase 3plus and Lotus 123.  Never would  I imagine to store my 120 GB of songs in a device.  How about the thumbdrive, 5 years ago the 128MB was so expensive, and we laughed when at that time we try to reminisce about the floopy disk. Nowadays you can buy 8GB of thumbdrive, smaller than your thumb at merely RM50. Whilst nowadays my wife couldn’t get anywhere without GPS . A few years back GPS is only available in a car that requires you to rob a bank.

How things change in life.  How fast time flies and the technology evolve. There was time, when a man would be proud with a small thing, and only one thing, his handphone…but nowadays, that is so impractical. We need a button at the size of our thumb.

What drive the technology fast pace, ever changing evolution ? It is us, human being with human nature desire, to equip ourselves with devices that could make life easier.  We want our mail to arrive straight away. We don’t want to wait any longer. But together with it , we lose a lot of passion in life as well.

Remember those days, as we travelled, we like to collect postcard. We write letter to our pen pal in overseas country, not twittering, we have collection of physical tape, that come with fancy album cover and lyrics that look impressively nice in our glass cupboard, we watch movies in an old cinema, with a very rugged chair and lousy sounds systems but with a lots of excitement, we look for small change and stand for hours to talk to our lover at public phone booth(whilst battling the mosquito attack) but it make us appreciate our love deeper, we keep a small fancy book with list of phone number of all people we know, we stop over at the side of the road and ask people for direction , and eventually make a new friend…..all that now has gone. The good in things in life, the things that bring color and spice to our journey, the passion that we build waiting for reply letter from our pen pal…..gone…for good…
