Restaurant : Yo Sushi

Where : Ground Floor , Garden MidValley

I believe this is the second time I wrote something about food and restaurant.Jojo perhaps you should reserve a column for me on this…hehehhehe

Anyhow, today (Sunday 9/3/08) I went to Midvalley for dinner with a friend. First I plan to try the Carl’s Junior burger as I have been tempted to try their super size burger.Unfortunately, the restaurant is too packed with people and my friend suggested that we went to other place. After about 15 minutes we decided nothing interesting in Mid Valley and decided to check the Garden instead.

We went to the ground floor and found couple nice restaurant, and then we saw this YO Sushi. Looked interesting and we decided to check it out.

First thing first, Lesson of the day. Never judge a book by its “Fancy cover”

We were greeted warmly by the staff.(Typical Japanese restaurant) and being escorted to the available table. After we settle down, we were shown the menu and being greeted by a very friendly staff. He asked us whether this is our first visit and after we said yes, he quickly introduce us to the menu and the ordering system. Polite and informative. I like it

After that, we took our own sweet time to make the order and I start to look around. I must say that I really like the decoration and most importantly, I love the music background. That soothing and relaxing kind of music that you can hear at posh places like Luna bar, 7ateni9, 101 Bar and café by name like Hed Kandi, etc. Groovy but relaxing (I am not sure what is the genre name of this kind of music…house groove perhaps) the volume is just nice (not too loud nor too slow) and sooth your mood. Good music background for socializing. The background consits of various color lighting, groovy and funky.I feel more like in a club than a japanese restaurant. Not much of japanese image except for a few pictures.Plus they have a large screen tv showing some imformation and advertisement on the restaurant...cool...really cool. The only drawback is that our seatingn position is a bit crampy but the seats itself is quite nice and comfortable. It is just the space...sigh...

Impressive so far.2 points for that

Then time to check the menu. I picked my first plate from the rail ( typical moving rail carrying plate with sushi on it) It is the tuna sashimi. Taste quite good but the accompanying black pepper does not mix well with tuna taste. Then I took another plate, a sashimi sets consisting of tuna, salmon and yellow tail fish. I must say that the fish taste better than the one you are getting from sushi king but in all honesty, not that great. The meat lack of the crispy taste and sweet juice from fresh raw fish. The texture has lose its muscle strength. Definitely not a new cut.(I start to feel frustrated by now)

I took my third plate which is the baby octopus. Ok, but not so great.(where goes the sweet taste of fresh seafood? ) Then I start to have headache, what else to eat? Only then I realized that their variety are really suck. I mean it. Suck a lot…..My friend ordered a hand roll soft shell crab and she complaint that the crab is a bit “hangus”…what is that in English ?...darn..i really cant think of any words…but I’m getting bored by now. In the end we only took 5 plate as there are nothing much to choose. This is “barny”( On normal circumstances, a sushi freak like me would take around 8 to 15 plates for two...heheheh)

Earlier we were told that if we were to pay by Citibank credit card, for 5 plate and above we can get free dessert. Anything in the menu that we like. So we decided to go for that as we have already finish up 5 plate. We wanted to try the green tea ice cream (Japanese famous ice cream for dessert) but only then they told us that the only ice cream available at that time is the red bean flavor ice cream…arghhh..you should have told us earlier…we might only settle for 4 plate then…

After we finish eating, we stay for about an hour and half chatting. Perhaps due to the cozy ambient, we really enjoyed staying much longer. They really score on this. Nice place to hang out and chat (luckily, the green teas are bottomless…)

At around 9 we asked for bills. Guess how much? a whopping 64.40 for 5 plates of sushi. Hmm, this is the argument, I normally spend for about 70 to 100++ for two at other Japanese restaurants but not for 5 plates ONLY…and it is not even that good…frustrating…

Like I said, never judge a book by it “Fancy” cover

On the way back, we feel hungry again and head to the nearest mamak and indulge into tasty Malaysian all time favorite – the classic roti canai…cliché…

Darn, with RM 65, we can’t even get our stomach full…so frustrating

Rating : 2 ½ start
