Guardian Angel part 4

“With this new power, can I finally free myself?”

A year ago when I was still very much alive, I used to live in the apartment that had burned down due to a faulty gas tank owned by my previous landlord. The place was hardly anything to shout about for it was cheap. The only things provided were the basic necessities, electricity, cold water, and a table. I lived on the fifth floor overviewing Brickfields. Every day was the same mundane routine, go to work and come back to sleep but I always looked forward to returning to my room after each day.

As I walk up the flight of stairs I’d be able to catch a glimpse of a unit that belongs to a single young mother by the name of Lianna. Sometimes as I walk up the stairs, I’d be able to see her by her doorstep cleaning the house. She always cleans around the time I come back from work. As she cleans, I would steal some time to simply stare at her grace and she would always take notice. It took me a while to finally be able to say to her ‘Good Morning’ despite being noon. She laughed and invited me for tea and it was then I grew to know her more.

She became pregnant at the age of seventeen and hence throwing away her education in order to support her child. Her boyfriend grew tired of staying with her shortly after six months their child was born. Apparently he had found another woman to sleep with, leaving Lianna all by herself to raise their child. I felt deeply moved for I know what it is like to have your father abandon you. Though I was just her neighbor, I’d offered her any form of help to her and her child so long as I’m alive.

However now, even in death, I can still be of help to her. It has been a year since I last saw her and our reunion was about to be cut short by the soul I’m currently hunting. The damned soul possessed a man’s body and used it to break into Lianna’s new house. As I stepped in the house, she was merely seconds from being hacked by him. Then in a split second, screams were heard.

If I had been a millisecond late, the cleaver the man held would have cut through her but I managed to block his strike with my sword just in time. My eye was dead focus onto killing his soul. Anger boiled deep within my core. An anger that had been boiling since I was thrown into hell was about to be unleashed but then the most unexpected thing occurred. She called out to me.

“Who are you? Where did you come from?”

In utter disbelief I replied, “You can see me?”

The possessed man continued his reckless assaults. I pushed Lianna away but as I did, the cleaver chopped of the arm that was holding my sword. My arm completely severed, dropped to the floor and yet I felt no pain. Rather than blood gushing out, streams of black smog flowed out of my severed arm.

“This is interesting, now it’s my turn.”

Black chains from my shoulder grabbed my severed arm and reattached itself in place. I can only assume these chains are all over my body. The possessed man trembled in fear as I approached him with my black sword tipping as I walked. He tried a desperate attempt to strike at me and in that moment I punctured his chest and ripped the possessed soul away from the host body. It didn’t take long for the reaper to show up to clean up for me.

Lianna still remained in fear as she did not understand what she had just witnessed. Then her one year old daughter came crawling out from her room. She saw me with no fear for me at all unlike her mother. Lianna begged me to not harm her. I knelt down towards the small thing. She in return, giggled and grabbed my hair like some play thing. Lianna soon stopped screaming as I brought her child back to her.

As I was about to leave, she said, “Please stay, for a while.”
