I personally think that it's difficult to be different in our society. Like..it's the ultimate sin. We have to follow what others do to get approval. That's where we got it wrong. We do not have to prove to anyone that we are worth it. In fact, we only need to prove to ourselves that we are worth it. Why did people laugh when the idea to build KLCC was presented? Because they think it's impossible since no one has done it. What we fail to understand that in order to achieve something, we have to go out of your comfort zone, be confident and just do it. Yes, like Nike said, Just Do It. If you want to write a novel, just do it (though people will ask you annoying questions like 'You? You want to WRITE?'. If you want to start a business, start it if you already have a good business model. Research shows that most enterprenuers open set up their businesses using parents money. Don't be shy. That's normal. I have a friend who attended ACCA recently. She said one of her classmates have only one leg and the other hand cannot be used. Can you imagine that...this person when out of his/her comfort zone to attend the class. It wasn't easy for this person of course. But despite it all, the will to succeed surpass everything. People can laugh. They will laugh. People will talk. They really will. People will ask because that's what they do. But at the end of the day, it's your dream. Why let your dream down? Why do we care so much? Successful people are different. Einstein is different, so does Isaac Newton and Da Vinci. Don't get me started on Bill Gates. So, let people talk. Because remember this: in order to be successful, you have to be different. Ideas from speech by Kenny Goh |
