One fine afternoon, we were walking around Midvalley looking for things to eat….(mind that this is true story but happen a few months ago, not this month…come on la…this month puasa month, tak boleh la lunch at midvalley)….in all honesty, we are having the so called “you decide” syndrome common to couple that has been together for so long..both pretend to not wanting to decide on where to EAT, and let the other to decide but almost immediately couldn’t agree to the other suggestion…..sigh…that was tough…its always..

she said ”u la decide”…

then u reply ”ala u la…I tak tahu nak makan apa”

“ala apa apa la”

“ala u la , I mana tahu u nak makan apa”

“ala , apa apa pun jadi la”

“ala” for the next 30 minute till u really make decision

Fortunately, we are in Midvalley and basically being here you are spoilt with choices….seriously…

So we keep on walking and walking till my eyes catch a glimpse of a picture that look like fried fish…Delicious ….I hold her hand to stop her from moving forward and point my finger to the banner, she looked at me and smile, and without a word we just walk in to the restaurant and sit down….as simple as that….(ye la , kalau dah tunjuk kat restaurant yang sedap, sure ok nyer kan….hehhehe)

Nonetheless the restaurant is called Rak Thai, serving basically what the thai’s would usually eat….(really do they ate this all the time ? ?....hmm,  “me” curious ) What really caught my attention would be the set that they are serving, a set full of variety of food for two (that looked like for 4 person) but it only cause you 49.00….that is a bargain considering what you are ordering and where you are at the moment…Hmmm, interesting….

The lunch set menu consist of

Green Chicken Curry Siakap Deep fried with lemon grass sauce Tom Yam Som Fred Kang Kung Thai style Fragrance Rice Lemongrass Juice

Before we indulge ourselves to the taste, let’s look at the deco itself.., I like the environment. Actually this restaurant is located in the middle of walk way in which due to its position the walk way now split into two (the mall owner way of maximizing their rent collection) , true to its theme, the restaurant are styles as accordance to old thai style stall, with a lot of bamboo and wooden plank being used to decorate the restaurant. The chair and table are old school style and not forgetting the track that they played on air…a very super cheesy thai song, and I couldn’t help myself laughing all the way….However I must say that the waitress at that time are quite efficient and polite…

Before I start about how the food taste like, I need to remind you that you need to read this article up to the end, as the big surprise is as usual, would be at the end…

I stat with the green chicken curry for from the look, the curry look delicious…I scoop a spoon full of gravy, and shove it to my mouth….It has thick and rich taste of coconut milk , and indeed it feel very milky…. But not much on curry taste nor spicy taste…but it taste good…it feel exactly like combining “Masak Lemak Cili Padi” with a bit of curry chicken…. But all in all , I just love the taste especially the aroma that come from it…Unique… and yes, it is green in color…

Then obviously I am very tempted to try the fish…The fish are fried to a perfect condition. Crispy on the outside , the crispiness that change the scale into crispy crackers…and on the inside, smooth and white fish texture that taste so sweet, whilst the sauce made of chilies and lemongrass give you an excellence flavors to be indulge. The lemongrass especially which not only smell good, provide unique lemongrass taste on the fish…so you got the sweetness of the fish, the hot chillies and the herbs taste of the lemongrass ,make it all perfect….for the record, I ate the whole fish to the extent that there is no fish meat leftover and all bones are completely detached from each other…well I just love fish…u know that aren’t you…

On the tom yam som, it is not the common tom yam you would have…first it is very light in color, no sign of red oil, and it really looked like a normal soup actually…The good things is that it doesn’t look like it was boiled with the whole bottle of cooking oil…so I guess it is healthy food...when I taste it, It has the normal taste of tom yam, but somehow it doesn’t work…well…something is missing…it is like you are watching world cup and brazil didn’t make it , or it is like a women who has put on all type of make up she could think off but didn’t put on the lipstic…it all can be define as one…PALE…. Well that serve the explanation I guess

But the Kangkung manage to save the disappointment over tomyam…well it aint that superb taste, it taste like exactly how a fried kangkung would taste like…so I guess it is ok…

Now the big surprise, when I saw the banner that show what the menu would be, I saw that they wrote down lemongrass juice and I been wondering what would it be ? could it be a type of gravy or could it be a type of sauce for you to dip with the fish…to my surprise , the lemongrass juice is actually a lemon grass JUICE….like orange juice, like apple juice…you are supposed to drink it….being adventurous as usual I am excited to try out something new and here it go…the drink are served in a squarish shape , not only that they also put a stick of lemongrass side by side with the straw…well the juice is in green color, and smell exactly like lemongrass…hence without hesitation I took a sip..no, I took a gulp (so happen I was thirsty) and the feeling was like OMG….imagine this,

On fine Hari Raya, you wonder around your kitchen and saw this delicious chicken or beef rendang made by your mother, the smell alone has temp you to give it a try, after all it is the signature dish , by your mother that you have tasted ever since you could remember raya and you have always wanted to taste it again and again (saper boleh lawan masakkan ibu kan) here again, the smell, and the taste of the rendang, I am sure you remember the saltiness, spiceness, the taste of the “keresek” and finally mix well with the taste of chicken or beef….oppssss…stop again…

imagine that taste in your mouth ….but now, imagine that taste in the form of liquid, and to be more precise, it is your drink….i don’t know you but to me I was like…WTF!!!!...i feel like DRINKING rendang…after a few gulp we both cant take it anymore and order a glass of ice water and didn’t attempt to try the lemongrass juice anymore….

It was a good experience but next time I would know what not to order….

My evaluation : 3 star out of 5

p/s For the record, I think they also had a branch in Amcorp Mall…if yes, then I think I know the owner…from what he told me he made tons of money despite Amcorp Mall being empty for all these years…people like going to his place… J so yes, you should give this a try
