Wachhhaaaa..........lets eat.......

One of my favorite dish would be the Chinese style cooking. I love it so much but always limited to “Halal” limitation thus as and when I found any halal Chinese restaurant, I will get pretty excited.

Recently, I was entertaining the so called a “Germany” guest which turn out has reside in Malaysia for more than 18 years and also have a local wife. Most of the hype gone when we know that he is as Malaysian as I could be... Nevertheless, I still endeavor to ensure that he enjoy his 4 days stay in KL as he is the representative of TUV , auditing our company for CE marking.

Well, it aint that hard, good food can enlighten any spirits in this world and I believe they can count on me for good food. The whole 4 days we been hoping from one restaurant to another around Serdang and Kuala Lumpur. We tried Bangkok Jazz, Souled Out, Tonks and Beans, Milwaukee , Abduls & Charlies , and Cheng Ho Court…Hmmm wait, pause and rewind. Cheng Ho Court ???

To much of my surprised, beside Mines Shopping Fair there is a hotel. All this while I thought that the only reputable hotel in this area would be the overly posh Palace of Golden Horses. This hotel is known as the Palace of Beach & Spa (coincidence similarity ?) Well put that aside, in this luxurious and zen hotel (really really a place you should call zen – peace, calm, serenity is all over the place, thanks to the great and simple wooden design) they have two restaurant . Abduls & Charlies which is their coffee house and Cheng Ho Court.

Cheng Ho Court is a Chinese cuisine restaurant, well you can pretty much guess by the name. So on the last day, ten of us head there for our farewell lunch. Before that I have perhaps asked each and every staff on the halalness of the restaurant as it turns out that my boss are quite fussy over such matter. For me, I get confidence to eat anywhere easily. : )

Like usual, entering to a new restaurant (at least it is new for me) I would like to observe the, First customer service and second the decoration. Well, what I can say is that u feel like you are in china while you are in the restaurant. There are lots of decorative items that reflect ancient Chinese era. Replica of man wheel cart, walls decoration and obviously red color theme, what do you expect ? Well in all honesty, I love every bit of the decoration. What they lack of would be some background music. They should have arranged for music background using Chinese musical instrument .That will definitely set the mood.

The service is not that impressive but good enough to make us shut our mouth with their cuisine. Well talking about that, I was in charge to make the ordering of the food. As we are planning for heavy lunch, I couldn’t try their dim sum…sigh , well I will come back again for that some other time. So back to the menu ….well, I ordered

Steam Patin Fish with soy sauce

Brocoli with scallop

Stir Fried Asparagus

Sweet corn and Crab soup

Black Pepper Beef

Kung Pow Chicken

Sweet and Sour Chicken

Honey and Ginger Fish

err, I think this is too much already for ten of us

Well this is quite a lot for me to write. Well lets start with the soup. As usual, I don’t really fancy Chinese soup. It is quite tasteless for me, and I am not much of a soup person myself. However, what can I say is that sweet corn and crab stick doesn’t compliment each other in term of the taste. Hmm not a good start…

Then come all the dishes. Obviously the one that I’m really attracted to must be the Steam Patin Fish. For years I have been eating “Masak Lemak Patin” and I have never tried it steam style though I really love steam fish. I took my spoon and scoop the fish. First thing that I noticed that the fish is extremely soft, white in color. My biggest worries would be for the fish to be smelly but to my surprised, I could not smell anything at all. The taste? Well, mother of all greatness. A part from the sumptuous soft texture, the fish is actually fat and it taste like fat as well. Fish fat. Extremely sweet and juicy and “berlemak” well I got to admit I couldn’t find the English word for berlemak.Blubber perhaps…Ahh, I don’t care for that now.It is just too nice.I am sure it is fresh. And the best part would be  the slightly salty soy sauce that has mixed well with the sweet juice that come out from the fish (the fat that has liquidize due to the heat perhaps) and the special herbs, compliment the fish taste well. I would say one of the best fish dish I ever had and no!!! you cant find this in any Malay restaurant. Forget your Siakap or Jenahak fish. This is really second to none.

The next one would be the Kung Pow Chicken and Sweet and Sour Chicken , well the chicken taste great too. Kung Pow basically is a dish made of dried chilly, cashew nut and some sauce and it taste slightly spicy, salty and a little bit of sweet. Great dish for chicken where else the sweet and sour chicken is rather a mundane taste for me and perhaps slightly over the top on the sweet part. Well, at least one of the chicken taste really good especially when you chew the chicken with the cashew nuts, good taste of chicken, great taste of the ingredient plus the crunchiness of the nuts. It is quite hard to go wrong for that

Black pepper beef taste abnormally good as well. Abnormal because the beef is so tender and the black pepper sauce taste so good. And the aroma are ridiculously tempting you to have more and more. Well lets talk again about the tenderness of the beef again. It is so tender to the extend that I hardly chew it, but still preserved the full taste of beef meat. So it is not because the meat has been pre cooked earlier but merely because it is from a fine cut.

Last but not least would be the Honey and Ginger fish.Well, it is just a normal fish fillet cooked with ginger and honey (duhhhh…the name quite a self explanatory right…) but due to the characteristic of honey and ginger, it gave you an after taste which is “heat ty” a term I used with my friends to describe heat produce after eating something. Well, I must say…it taste good.Opps, I almost forgot, the broccoli and asparagus. Great taste for both especially the broccoli and scallop. I just love the scallop taste though I am quite sure that it is the “canned” version of scallop, it still taste good. I wish I can try fresh scallop someday. To prove my words on the taste of the vegetables, the plate is totally empty by the end of the meal (normally we didn’t really finish our vegetable right…)

All in all, I love the food here though it cost us a whopping RM 500++ . But come to think about it, it is only RM 50 per person and we do eat like pigs…all out till we cant eat no more…so kindda worth it….4 and ½ star from me.(The customer service aint that great….)

I will try to find time to write about other restaurant I visited recently such as Bangkok Jazz and Tonks & Beans.Really need to share it with you all, too many interesting founding……till next time…bon apatite.. eh betul ker spelling nie?
